Retailers rolling out more big discounts for eMonday

‘Tis the season for discounts in Bermuda this Christmas as retailers - encouraged by the huge success of Black Friday - roll out more sales and deeper discounts for holiday shoppers.The Chamber of Commerce is next week sponsoring its second annual Bermuda version of the popular US Cyber Monday online shopping day.And this year eMonday coordinator Coral Wells said many participating retailers are giving bigger and better deals after seeing how popular last week’s Black Friday sales were as people formed long lines to snag 20 to 40 percent off at Phoenix and other deals such as $9 Blackberry phones at CellOne.For next week’s eMonday event, Gibbons Company, for example, is offering as much as 25 percent off online on all Wacoal’ bras and shapewear as well as 50 percent off selected cotton blankets, 25 percent off Betsey Johnson jewellery and savings on its designer boots and shoes.“What happened was people saw how successful Black Friday was and also Cyber Monday in the US this week and they wanted to be part of eMonday,” Ms Wells said.“We had a couple of new retailers sign up just in the last few days.”Two dozen local retailers with websites have signed up so far, offering up to 50 percent savings on everything from website design to handcrafted jewellery to books.More are expected to sign up by Monday with the COC accepting eTailers through the weekend.Ms Wells, manager/founder of W&W Solutions, said in order to take part retailers must at least take orders online - they can even do this via a Facebook site.Last year she said online retailers enjoyed more than 2,400 hits in the 24-hour period, and she is expecting the number to be much higher this year with the deeper discounts being offered by participating retailers.In addition, this year HSBC will be offering an eMonday Merchant Prize for the eTailer who receives the most “hits” or “click-throughs” on their website banner from December 5 to December 11. The prize will be free merchant card processing services for three months.The eMonday.bm website has a list of local “eTailers” taking part and if you scroll over their ads it shows the deals and discounts they plan to offer this Monday if you buy online.Bigsavingszone.bm is advertising 15 percent savings on home furnishings while Bookmart (Brown.bm/departments/bookmart) is offering 10 percent off its titles online.Communications providers are also joining in with Digicel offering double credit online top ups and North Rock offering two months of free Internet.Advanced Services is offering special $549 pricing on website design and KemKor Tech is offering 10 percent off its technology and computer services.Several new smaller eTailers are taking part including cosmetics and make up services company Chrysalisbda.com, and art supplies seller Dnashoppe.biz/Shoppe/home, run by Lexy and Dion Correia.Christa Leduc’s reasonably priced handcrafted gemstone, shell, seaglass, and Bermuda coin jewellery are available to view and buy on her website, which is offering a free gift with purchase on eMonday at Clwireart.com.Alexander Mosher Studio Jewellery is also offering a free gift - a $45 value Isla Bermuda sand pendant with every purchase at Alexandramosher.com just on eMonday.And Surprise.bm is offering 20 percent savings on party supplies.The eMonday sale is 24 hours only, meaning you have to make your purchases on Monday.Other discounts and sales offered by retailers this Christmas include20 percent off store-wide savings for all seniors at all Phoenix Stores, P-Tech, Brown & Co, Annex Toys yesterday.Bermuda.com is launching the second annual 12 Days of Christmas promotion via the radio, newspaper, web, and social media to reach shoppers on behalf of participating retailers. There are 12 specific days to shop and certain hours of the day that discounts will be offered plus a disc jockey will be playing music in participating stores, which this year include: Brown & Co., P-Tech, Annex Toys, Gibbons Company, Hunt’s, Lusso, Boutique CC and 27th Century Boutique, Animal & Garden House, World on Wireless, AS Cooper Harbourside, Phoenix Centre, Easy Park, Luxury for Less, Masters, Fairmont Golf, ER Aubrey and CellOne.“Last year’s (12 Days) event was a real hit with Gibbons Company customers,” said the store’s CEO Paula Clarke. “They truly enjoyed the very festive and enhanced atmosphere of music while they shopped along with the very special event deals that were offered.”
