MEN'S HOCKEY HOC Wasps and Chameleons were both narrow winners over the weekend as play began in the Men's Hockey League at National Sports Club.
Defending champions Wasps squeaked by a young NSC Rebels side 2-1. Albert Steede of Wasps had a penalty shot superbly saved by Nigel Pichery, but the goalie was helpless as Gordy Shaw slammed home a shot from close range.
Donny Moniz put Rebels back on level terms after earlier missing on a breakaway. However the issue was settled when Simon Farrington scored five minute from the end.
Meanwhile, Chameleons were 1-0 victors in a close encounter with Police Polecats. Newcomer Steve Moreton scored the lone tally from an acute angle.
