Oleander Cycles president and general manager Geoffrey Gibbons is the new owner of Oleander Cycles and the Bermuda Train Company.

In a management buy-out, Mr. Gibbons, who has been general manager for the past 15 years, purchased Oleander Cycles and the Bermuda Train Company on May 31 from company founder John Leseur after he decided to retire from the business.

Mr. Leseur started the business in 1957 in the basement of the Buena Vista Guesthouse with a dozen simple mopeds.

?We look forward to continuing our growth. Oleander Cycles has built itself on a highly dedicated and professional staff, maintaining a tradition of excellence in service and quality equipment,? Mr. Gibbons said.

The company was incorporated as a limited liability company in April 1964 and in 1972 a purpose-built facility was constructed at 6 Valley Road which has served as the hub of the entire operation since. The business has grown steadily and now has a fleet of 1,200 scooters.

In 1999, Oleander Cycles formed a wholly owned subsidiary called the Bermuda Train Company Limited operating two trolley trains to provide both visitors and locals with tours of Hamilton, Dockyard and Somerset Village.

?I have a lot of faith in the tourism industry, it?s still early in the season but this season is stronger than the last season and I am optimistic for this season and for the long term,? said Mr. Gibbons.

?We should see increased business over the next three months with hotels booked fully booked and the upcoming Newport-Bermuda race.?

Oleander Cycles has nine retail locations Island-wide, including four modern facilities for the purchase of scooters, motorcycles and accessories.

?Those employees with a commitment to excellence, exhibiting pride and workmanship are the ones who have distinguished us from our competitors,? Mr. Gibbons said.

?Anticipating the needs of our customers and providing that service with attention to detail has created the large customer base we now service and has made us a leader in the cycle livery business.?
