Motorists receive traffic advisory over cycle race
parking for the annual IBC Front Street Series Cycle Race tomorrow.
Approximately 70 competitors are expected in the Bermuda Bicycle Association event of one Citizens Ride and eleven races.
Sprint races will start at the junction of Front and Court streets and travel west to the finish line at the Flagpole.
Circuit races will start at the Flagpole, travel east on Front Street, north on Court Street, west on Reid Street, south on Queen Street, and east on Front to the finish at the Flagpole.
Between noon and 4.30 p.m. five city streets will be closed to traffic: Front Street between Point Pleasant Road and Court Street; Court Street between Church and Front Streets (traffic will be allowed north on Court Street from Reid Street); Reid Street between Court and Queen streets; Burnaby Street between Church and Front streets; and Queen Street between Front and Reid streets.
All junctions leading to the routes will be policed and traffic will be diverted away from the routes of the races.
Traffic will be allowed to travel west along Reid Street as far as Court Street and then will be diverted north on Court Street.
Parking of all vehicles on both sides of the road, including motorcycles will be prohibited from 6 a.m. on Sunday at Front Street between Queen and Court streets; Court Street between Front and Church streets; Queen Street between Reid and Front streets; Reid Street between Court and Queen streets; and Burnaby Street between Front and Church streets. All westbound buses will be diverted up Spurlings Hill between noon and 4.30 p.m.
A diversion sign will be placed at the junction of Front Street and Bermudiana Road and an "advise detour'' sign between east of the junction of Crow Lane and Spurlings Hill.
A St. John Ambulance Brigade ambulance will be stationed in the car park opposite the Bank of Butterfield on Front Street.
Race organisers will inform Police by 9 a.m. if a decision is made to cancel the races.
Traffic lights will be switched off by 12.15 p.m. at the junction of Front and Burnaby streets; Front Street and Walker Arcade; Front Street and Number Six Dock; and Court and Reid streets.
