Girl guides donate 'Shoeboxes of Love'
A group of young girl guides have spread Christmas cheer to a number of charities by donating ?Shoeboxes of Love?.
The shoeboxes were made by the First St. Patrick?s Guide Company, comprised of girls aged ten to 14, who both decorated them and filled them with goods such as blankets, crayons, DVDs, hairbrushes, hair clips, lotion, pencils, pens, soap, talcum powder and other toiletries.
The guides donated their shoeboxes to three elderly ladies in the Smith?s Parish community, Agape House, the children?s ward at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, Sunshine League and the Women?s Resource Centre.
On December 9, the guides went to KEMH?s children?s ward and presented the shoebox to nursing staff before moving over to the Continuous Care Unit to sing Christmas carols and then on to Agape House for another presentation.
?Christmas is a time for giving,? First St. Patrick?s Guide Company Leader Sarah Randall said.
?We wanted to take the time to think of others and bring some cheer to those at the hospital.
?It was a good opportunity for the guides to give something they had created to those less fortunate than themselves.?
