Beverley celebrates in style

Beverley Joell of Southampton was not personally inclined to make a big deal over the fact that she her reached her 70th birthday, but her close family and friends felt differently. They hosted a milestone party for her at the home of her daughter, Keevamae Benjamin situated in the brand new development on the southeastern corner of Beacon Hill overlooking Sandys Secondary School and Somerset Cricket field. Beverley is supposed to be retired, but she is a volunteer worker three days a week at the Salvation Army’s Thrift Shop, King’s Street, and Hamilton.‘Back in the day,’ as they say, Beverley worked in the hospitality industry, and owned the Continental Fabric Shop, Burnaby Street, Hamilton. She also worked at the Parson’s Road Laundromat. She is the daughter of the late Gerald and Ismay DeSheilds of Ord Road, Warwick.Gerald, a popular Elbow Beach bartender was one of the founding members and firsts president of the Leopards Club, International which, incidentally 60 years ago last month, opened its clubhouse on Cedar Avenue. He was better known as ‘Sleepy’ De Shields.
