Alosha

Russian animated feature film ?Alosha? and the German feature film, ?Treasure of the White Falcons?, took top honours at the third annual BIFF Kids Film Festival held over the weekend at Liberty Theatre.

The films were judged by juries made up of local youngsters, who entered a contest in order to sit on the juries.

The younger jury chose Alosha as top feature, while giving its Best Short Award to the Senegal-Spain co-production ?Binta and the Great Idea?, which has won some 40 festival awards worldwide.

Making up the jury were 11-year-old Valerie Hirschberg, eight-year-old Francesca Maiden and seven-year-old Ella Burt.

The older jury named Treasure of the White Falcons as Best Feature, while giving the Best Short award to the Canadian animated short film, ?Surly Squirrel?. Making up the jury were 13-year-olds Seth Wilson and Rowan Border and 11-year-old Lara Hetzel.

Thirty-three films from 15 countries screened at the three-day festival, in addition to 22 short films made by local youngsters in the BIFF Kids Summer Film Production Camps sponsored by Butterfield Bank.

Some 700 youngsters also attended films as part of the festival?s School Screening Programme, held Thursday and Friday at Liberty Theatre.
