"I went out there and did what I had to do,'' said a jubilant Mr. Wellman, who'll be carrying Bermuda's hopes at next month's Olympic Games in Barcelona.

Wellman's winning jump -- a wind-aided 56 feet 91 inches -- was not far short of his of 57-11 personal best.
