New CPCUs honoured at ceremony
Insurance industry professionals who earned their Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter designation this year have been honoured at a conferment ceremony.
John Wight, the chairman and chief executive officer of BF&M, has the CPCU designation. He was the guest speaker at the ceremony, and said he firmly believes that “the CPCU [designation] is a foundation for outstanding leadership”.
Alexandra Porter, president of the CPCU Society's Bermuda Chapter, said: “Our annual conferment ceremony is the most important date on the events calendar of the Bermuda Chapter. We are formally recognising the hard work and dedication of our newest members in achieving their professional designation. It allows us to not only celebrate with the new designees, but also to enjoy a networking opportunity and make connections with fellow CPCUs within the insurance industry in a socially distanced fashion. We also highlight the great educational and social events upon which our leadership committee work tirelessly to organise throughout the year.”
Obtaining the qualification requires eight examinations covering topics such as risk management, business law, finance and accounting, insurance operations, financial planning and property-liability insurance.
The CPCU designation is considered one of the top designations offered in the insurance industry.
Julia Judd, of MS Amlin, was awarded the prize for individual excellence having achieved the highest grades in the class of 2020.
BF&M was honoured with an award for corporate excellence for their promotion of further education within the insurance industry.
Others in the CPCU “class of 2020” included Allison Bassett, of Bowring Marsh; Carlie Peniston, of Aon; Christopher Abraham and Kyle Mitchell, of Chubb; Daniel Pell, of Ariel Re; Janeigh Trott-Fadda, of American International; Joann Nichols, of Argus Group; Lawrence Mulamba, of PCG Holdings; Stacy Ashby, of BF&M; William Tyrell, of Dyna Management Services; and Xiaonan Sun, of Validus Holdings.
