Trott thrilled with Montreal experience
Tim Trott, the Bermuda Under-14 girls’ basketball team head coach, has hailed his side’s recent tour of Montreal as a success.
The under-14 side completed the whirlwind tour with an overall 3-3 record and finished as runners-up in the DJ Sports Club round robin tournament.
“This is a big step for girls’ basketball in Bermuda,” Trott said.
The team lost their opening two exhibition games against Dorval-Jean XXIII Falcons, 54-45, and Villa Maria Academy, 38-26, before bouncing back with an emphatic 51-14 demolition of Lakeside Academy in their third exhibition match.
The resounding victory boosted the team’s confidence heading into the four-team DJ Sports Club round robin tournament, where Trott’s charges did themselves proud.
They recorded back-to-back wins against hosts DJ Sports Club, 34-22, and a physical AGBU, 36-19, before losing to tournament winners Sun Youth, 34-20, in their final outing.
“The moral victory would be that the 14 point deficit was the lowest of all the teams who played Sun Youth that day,” Trott said of his team’s only defeat.
Trott revealed that Bermuda could potentially host a similar round robin tournament in the future.
“Through the contacts made, there’s a great chance of hosting a similar tournament in Bermuda with Sun Youth, DJ Sports Club and hopefully a few other girls’ club teams from Montreal,” he said.
