April 2: Jahmel Blakeney, accused of the 2009 attempted murder of Shaki Minors and his pregnant girlfriend outside Southside Cinema, was extradited from the US to Bermuda to face those charges.April 4: Government amended a section of the Bermuda Immigration and Protection Regulations Act and added 521 condominiums to the list of units that can be bought by expats. The Waterfront and Mizzentop in Warwick are among the condo communities on the list.April 5: Government Senate Leader David Burch resigned from his post. He said he believed Premier Paula Cox lacked confidence in him as she spoke with Police Commissioner Michael DeSilva about the Randy Robinson murder without consulting him first.April 7: Bermuda High School for Girls teacher Gareth Lewis is fired for allegedly sending inappropriate text messages to a student.April 8: The Island welcomes the first AirTran flight which will provide daily service to and from Baltimore for six months.April 9: Timothy (Timmy) Pedro, 49, died after he lost control of his bike and crashed into a tree on Middle Road in Devonshire around on April 8.April 9: The Bermuda Industrial Union officially rejected a Government pay proposal that included a wage freeze and straight time pay instead of overtime until the end of 2011. According to then Bermuda Democratic Alliance chairman Michael Fahy, there was no reliable information on the accounts dating back to 1999.April 13: Reductions to every ferry route were made in an effort to reduce fuel consumption after the ferry service budget was cut by 24 percent.April 14: Beekeepers were called into Hamilton after more than 14,000 bees swarmed portions of Bermudiana Road and Front Street.April 15: An approval ratings poll showed that only 28 percent of people thought Premier Paula Cox was doing a good job and only 16 percent were impressed by the PLP, their lowest rating since the 2007 general election.April 16: Winter air arrivals (January through March) increased seven percent over the same period in 2010, the first increase since 2008.April 16: Bermudian Deandra Brangman won first place in the Top Model UK contest.April 18: A poll by Mindmaps reveals that one in ten registered voters lost their job in the previous 12 months.April 19: Island records fourth fatal shooting of the year with the death of David Clarke, 26, in Devonshire.April 20: There is heightened talk of a merger between political parties United Bermuda Party and the Bermuda Democratic Alliance following prolonged negotiations.April 21: A bus sick-out results in service cuts to five different routes to and from Hamilton.April 23: Premier Paula Cox officially rejects Bermuda Industrial Union’s call for Cabinet ministers to take a pay cut as a symbolic gesture after a pay cut to their overtime pay was tabled.April 25: The Island sees the first batch of 700 post-war “baby boomers” turn 65 and become eligible for the Contributory Pensions Scheme a rise of 150 percent over last year when 276 people became senior citizens. The senior population explosion is expected to continue until 2028.April 26: A new bus initiative installs a dispatcher in Dockyard to “control tourist numbers” to ensure seats are available for residents.April 27: An estimated 600 Bermuda Public Service Union members march on Cabinet calling for more help for struggling families and a price freeze on essential services.April 28: The United Bermuda Party and Bermuda Democratic Alliance merge to create One Bermuda Alliance.
