FOX IS ELECTED AS CHAIRMAN APP AWD Fox is elected as chairman Michael Fox was elected chairman of the Board of the Caribbean Regional Network for People Living with HIV/AIDS (CRN) at that agency's meeting in Trinidad last month.

Mr. Fox, a former director and administrator of the Allan Vincent Smith Foundation, has been a member of the board of CRN since its inception in Trinidad in 1997.

It was at that time that a group of concerned individuals met with representatives from 11 countries -- including Bermuda -- to discuss the plight of people living with HIV/AIDS in the Caribbean.

In order to represent all Caribbean cultures, the ten-member board consists of representatives from each region: French-speaking; Dutch-speaking; Spanish-speaking; English-speaking; independent Caribbean; continental Caribbean; British Overseas Territories; and three representatives from international organisations.

As the British Overseas Territories representative, Mr. Fox will network with National AIDS Programme directors in Anguilla, Turks & Caicos, Montserrat, British Cayman Islands, British Virgin Islands and Bermuda.

He has also begun organising meetings of the first network for People Living with HIV/AIDS in Bermuda and this organisation is set to become a registered charity.

Next month Mr. Fox will represent CRN at the Fourth International Conference on Home and Community Care for People Living with HIV/AIDS which is set to be held in Paris, France.

CRN's presence now extends to nearly 20 Caribbean countries where it seeks to increase awareness of treatment information exchange, advocacy and lobbying for people living with HIV/AIDS.

This has been made possible by the creation of a newsletter, Heartline, which was developed by Mr. Fox and is distributed Caribbean-wide by the network to people living with HIV/AIDS.
