A man who “only had half a bottle of Scotch” has been fined $1,000 for driving a Jet Ski while drunk.
Kinte Smith, 28, pleaded guilty at Magistrates’ Court this morning to being impaired while in charge of a vehicle on August 3 — the annual Non-Mariners Race.
Smith, of Pembroke, told police he “only had half a bottle of Scotch”, the court heard.
“You were operating a Jet Ski in a prohibited area,” Magistrate Juan Wolffe said. “You were seen to accelerate between swimmers and boats.”
Smith told the court he had not intended to put the public in danger.
“I was just having a good time at Non-Mariners,” he said. “I never put anybody’s life in jeopardy.”
