Drug smuggler jailed three months

Police prosecutor Sgt. Anthony Mouchette said Harris was taken by Police -- who were acting on information received -- from the airport to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

X-rays revealed 35 balloon-shaped objects in Harris' system, Sgt. Mouchette added.

Harris later admitted ingesting the drugs while he was in Jamaica.

Magistrate Edward King jailed Harris one month for importing the cannabis and three months for importing the resin. Both sentences will run concurrently.

Ivan Smith, of Bulkhead Drive, on Friday denied accusations that he imported heroin and cannabis resin and possessing both drugs intended for supply on March 11 in St. George's.

Despite Crown Counsel Lesley Basden's objections, Senior Magistrate Will Francis released Smith on $10,000 bail to return for trial on July 1 and 2.

Mr. Francis also ordered Smith to surrender all travel documents and report to Hamilton Police Station every Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.
