Pacers clean up in East Coast meet

Bermuda Pacers Track Club athletes made their presence felt at the weekend’s Russell E Blunt East Coast Invitational in Durham, North Carolina.The local team captured an impressive 38 individual medals that included 17 gold.They also finished second in the Bantam and Youth Women Team Rankings and third in the Intermediate Women Team Rankings and Men’s Midget and Intermediate Team Rankings to cap a memorable display at the three-day meet held at the Duke University.Among the standout performers was distance runner Juma Mouchette who won gold medals in the 800 metres (1:56.70), 1500 metres (4:14.90) and 3000 metres (9:37.78) competing in the Young Men’s Division.The trio of Jade Johnston, Justin Donawa and Kyrah Scraders each won two gold medals.Distance runner Jade Johnston won gold medals in the Sub Bantam Girls 800 metres (2:57.33) and 1500 metres (6:19.81), Justin Donawa won gold medals in the Intermediate Boys long jump (6.73 metres) and triple jump (14.19 metres) events while Scaders won gold in the 800 (2:16.12) and 1500 metres (4:53.98) Intermediate Girls.Others winning gold medals were Ryan Outerbridge in the 800m Bantam Boys (2:32.88), Quaashie Douglas in the 800m Youth Girls (2:25.31), Rachel Fox in the 800m Young Women division (2:21.95), Aaaron Jacobs in the 1500m Midget Boys (4:51.08) and Zakiyha Showers in the 3000m Youth Girls event (11:24,83).Sakari Famous won the gold medal in the Midget Girls high jump (1.45 metres), Elisha Darrell claimed the gold in the Youth Boys high jump (1.65 metres), Sean Tucker won the gold in the Midget Boys javelin (38.79 metres) while Demiqua Daniels won the gold in the Youth Girls javelin with a throw of 24.02 metres.Claiming silver medals were Destani Warner in the 200 (29.92) and 400 (1:07.10) metres Bantam Girls dash (29.92), Taahirra Butterfield in the 200m Intermediate Girls (25.13), Kyle Webb in the 200m Young Men Division (21.59), Jacobs in the 400m (58.50) and 800m (2:14.60) Midget Boys and Azaire Smith in the Youth Girls 400m (59.71) and high jump (1.50 metres) events.Paige Bruton also won silver in the 300m Youth Girls (11:24.83), Donawa in the Intermediate Boys triple jump (6.73), while Bermuda Pacers ‘A’ won the silver in the Youth Girls (4.05.56) and Intermediate Boys 4x400 relay (3.33.61).Claiming bronze medals were Zak-Kayza Parsons in the Bantam Girls 100m (14.53) and 200m (30.03) Johnston in the Sub Bantams Girls 400m (1:14.56), Sela Tuzo in the Bantam Girls 1500m (5:34.68), Showers in the 1500m Youth Girls (5:14.60), Jahmari Sutton in the 1500m Intermediate Boys (4:31.71) and Zekiah Lewis in the Midget Girls long jump with a leap of 4.44 meters.Darrell also won the bronze medal in the Youth Boys long jump (5.25m) while Bermuda Pacers ‘A’ took the bronze in the 4x400m Bantam Girls relay (5.05.05).
