Bermuda Track and Field Association have named a squad of eight athletes to compete at next week’s Island Games in the Isle of Wight. The Island’s contingent has a blend of youth and experience with May 24 Derby female winner Deon Breary, promising distance runner Sean Trott and Pam- Am Games qualifier Shianne Smith included.Smith won a silver medal at the 2007 Games in Rhodes in the 400 metres.Due to international commitments, none of Bermuda’s elite athletes are able to carry the Island’s flag at the Games, which run from June 25 to July 1.Donna Watson, BTFA president, said admitted she would have liked to send a bigger team.“The BTFA is announcing the track and field Island Games team. We would like to have a bigger team but due to the timing (of the event) some of the athletes were unavailable due to school commitments and some travelling to other meets. The team is strong and we expect some good results,” said Watson.Bermuda’s team: Deon Breary, Jennifer Alen, Victoria Clarke, Shianne Smith, Melissa Clarke, Sean Trott, Gary Raynor, Stephen AllenTeam coach: Tony BeanTeam manager: Robert Oliver
