Curtis reportedly arrested

Andre Curtis

Premier Ewart Brown's controversial political campaigner Andre Curtis has been arrested, according to a Police source.

This newspaper was informed by a source inside Bermuda Police Service, but the force's media relations team refused to confirm or deny the claim.

ZBM last night reported on Mr. Curtis' alleged arrest and claimed he was said to be in custody at Hamilton Police Station.

Mr. Curtis' telephone went straight to voicemail yesterday afternoon and by the evening his message box was full.

The Progressive Labour Party branch chairman for the Premier's Warwick South Central constituency is the subject of investigations at home and abroad, but last night it was not clear exactly what has prompted his alleged arrest.

Montana State Auditor's Office — which is preparing to add Mr. Curtis' name to its action over a worldwide security fraud — did not respond to requests for comment yesterday.

The website of Mr. Curtis' company Harvest Investment Holdings — which is also named in the fraud action — was removed last week after it emerged it was falsely claiming to be licensed by Bermuda Monetary Authority to provide a series of services.

Asked last week whether it was investigating Harvest Investment Holdings, Bermuda Monetary Authority replied: "Due to statutory confidentiality provisions under the Bermuda Monetary Authority Act 1969, the Authority does not publicly discuss any matters related to specific regulated entities."

The Montana auditor has previously said it has been contacted by officials in Bermuda regarding Mr. Curtis. The Ministry of Finance has not commented beyond saying it will assist as required and always endeavours to be co-operative when overseas jurisdictions ask about Bermuda entities.

Auditor General Larry Dennis is auditing Mr. Curtis' contract with the Department of Tourism after he repeatedly failed to explain what he did with hundreds of thousands of taxpayers' dollars he received to run his much-criticised faith-based tourism scheme.

Mr. Dennis could not be reached last night, although it is understood his audit is in its early stages.

Dr. Brown and PLP chairman David Burt have refused to comment on the allegations against Mr. Curtis, which surfaced at the beginning of last week.

In the alleged scam — apparently masterminded by Daniel Two Feathers and Shawn Swor — investors are said to have been conned out of huge sums of money after being promised returns of up to 400 percent per week.

Six alleged victims have come forward so far, and the total amount people are said to have lost is substantially more than $1 million.

Anyone who has had dealings with Mr. Curtis or Harvest Investment Holdings which may be connected to the case is urged to telephone Montana State Auditor's Office on 1-406-444-2040. Montana is three hours behind Bermuda.
