Kyme stuns USA's No. 1
Championships in New Jersey at the expense of hosts United States on Tuesday.
Playing in round one of the Classic Plate, 17-year-old Nick Kyme took on the USA's number one ranked player Eric Pearson whom he had not played since they were both 11 years old, when Kyme won in five games.
This time the victory never looked in doubt as Kyme raced out to an early lead with a nervous Pearson making a number of errors and allowing his opponent to take the first game 9-3.
In the second, Kyme took command, playing the ball early and despite a stoppage when he grazed his knee on the floor stretching for a drop shot, rattled off a 9-2 win.
In the third, things didn't go the Bermudian's way as he played too many cross court shots and allowed the American just the opportunity he needed to produce a couple of spectacular winners and take the game 9-7.
Kyme returned to his original game plan in the fourth, playing tight and straight up and down the walls and his patience paid off with a 9-3 victory for the match.
In other matches, Sam Stevens lost to Alexandre Dornelas of Brazil 2-9, 9-4, 9-2, 9-0, James Stout went down to Mohammed Gulom from Kuwait 9-1, 9-2, 9-0 and Michael Stout lost to Rogerio Silverstre, another Brazilian, 9-0, 9-0, 9-0.
