The Bermuda Match Play Championships begin this morning at Port Royal Golf Course with defending champion Jarryd Dillas sitting out the medal round.

As title-holder, Dillas exercised his right to miss the medal round but this year he will be joined by significant group in the men’s championship whose handicaps are at scratch or better.

In the women’s and senior men’s championship divisions, there will be new champions with Kathy Lloyd-Hines and Terry Mullan unavailable, but the eight-player divisions are expected to be closely contested.

Competition is to continue through Sunday.
