Just the ticket! High fliers book trip to UK in BA contest

Six Bermudian entrepreneurs have won return air tickets to London.The names of the winners in the Face-2-Face Contest were announced yesterday by sponsors British Airways, who ran the competition in partnership with the Bermuda Small Business Development Corporation (BSBDC) and its Economic Empowerment Zones Agency (EEZA).The winning entrepreneurs were Anthony Easton, of Anthony's; Tom Wadson, of Wadson's Farm; Lamone Woods, of Bermuda Sports Network; Terry Smith, of Clara Bows; Lucinda Spurling, of Afflare Films and Alexandra Mosher, of Alexandra Mosher Jewellery Studio.

Six Bermudian entrepreneurs have won return air tickets to London.

The names of the winners in the Face-2-Face Contest were announced yesterday by sponsors British Airways, who ran the competition in partnership with the Bermuda Small Business Development Corporation (BSBDC) and its Economic Empowerment Zones Agency (EEZA).

The winning entrepreneurs were Anthony Easton, of Anthony's; Tom Wadson, of Wadson's Farm; Lamone Woods, of Bermuda Sports Network; Terry Smith, of Clara Bows; Lucinda Spurling, of Afflare Films and Alexandra Mosher, of Alexandra Mosher Jewellery Studio.

Five tickets were orginally offered, but BA said it made a sixth ticket available "as a result of the high quality of all the submissions".

The contest was well subscribed with 40 outstanding submissions ranging with ideas from sustainable farming through unique Bermudian jewellery. Of those 40, 12 submissions were short-listed to make a face-to-face presentation to the final jury panel made up of two representatives from British Airways, two representatives from BSBDC/EEZA, and two independent journalists.

Others who made the short list of 12 were Cheryl Kerr (Sistah Saute'); Susann Smith (veterinary clinic); Anne Hyde (KBB); Bob Smith (The Academy of Martial Arts); Stacy Hill (Secrets) and Tamara White (Posh Salon).

Applicants and businesses were asked to submit an essay between 250 and 500 words explaining how a face-to-face meeting in the UK would help their business in Bermuda.

Their submission included who or what organisation they would like to meet in the UK.

Through their participation in the contest, the winners will get the chance to be involved in Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) in London, from November 15 to 21, organised by Global Entrepreneurship Week UK. The UK events are run by the co-founding organisation of the week, Enterprise UK. "British Airways, BSBDC and EEZA wish to congratulate all the participants on their submissions and encourage those who were not selected to continue to pursue their entrepreneurial goals," the oganisations said in a joint statement, yesterday.
