Executives and top regulators to speak at BMA Forum

Top financial regulators and leading executives from the financial services industry will contribute to the Bermuda Monetary Authority’s (BMA) second annual International Regulatory Forum, to be held at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess on Wednesday.International financial experts attending via teleconference will include Monica Mächler, vice-chairman of the Swiss Financial Supervisory Authority (FINMA) and Karel van Hulle, head of unit for insurance and pensions, at the European Commission, who is widely regarded as the architect of the Solvency II Directive for the insurance market.Another global figure who will be in attendance will be Michael Tannenbaum, co-founder of New York-based firm Tannenbaum Helpern Syracuse & Hirschtritt LLP.Between 2007 and 2008, Dr Mächler was CEO of the Swiss Federal Office of Private Insurance and has served on several expert commissions of the Swiss Confederation. She is a lecturer in an international business law programme at Zurich University, and publishes her work regularly.Both Dr Mächler and Mr van Hulle will address the Forum, providing a perspective from Europe, particularly regarding Solvency II.Mr Tannenbaum has been selected a ‘New York Super Lawyer’ every year since 2006 and specialises in securities and futures regulation.Bermuda-based leaders from both the public and private sector will also be participating in the event.Premier and Finance Minister Paula Cox will deliver the opening address.Other big hitters include Sharon Beesley, senior counsel, ISIS Law Ltd, chairman, investment funds committee, Business Bermuda; Robert Childs, chief underwriting officer, Hiscox; Jeremy Cox, CEO, BMA; Graeme Dargie, senior advisor, banking, trust and investment, BMA; Brad Erickson, chief operating officer, BMA; David Ezekiel, chairman of Marsh IAS; Hugh Gillespie, legal counsel, Orbis Investment Management Ltd; Dinos Iordanou, Arch Capital CEO and ABIR chairman; Brad Kading, president and executive director of ABIR; John Kephart, president and CEO, Capital G Ltd; Brad Kopp, Butterfield Bank’s president and CEO and president of the Bermuda Bankers Association; Shanna Lespere, director, insurance supervision, BMA; Richard Moseley, deputy CEO, HSBC Bermuda; Roger Scotton, senior adviser, BMA; Alastair Sutton, European Union adviser to the Ministry of Finance; and Marcia Woolridge-Allwood, director, banking, trust and investment, BMA.
