Vive la France

If frog?s legs, a bottle of burgandy and all things French are your baguette, you should enjoy tonight?s Alliance Fran?aise of Bermuda annual fundraising event.

But guests should be prepared to walk the plank for their supper ? the theme of tonight?s gala, being held to to raise money for students attending a camp next summer, is Pirates and Privateers.

The event will be held tonight, Bastille Day, at the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club and all francophiles are invited to join in the celebrations.

Association secretary Mariette Savoie promises a great evening, with good food, French wine and dancing under the stars to tunes played by Michael Perinchief and friends.

She said it is the association?s major fund-raising event of the year and is in support of its educational and cultural programmes.

?Our Bastille Day raffle has great prizes donated by our sponsors and proceeds will also go towards this year?s educational programmes,? she said.

The association holds an annual essay competition for teenagers and the winners go to a two-week French camping holiday in Qu?bec?s Laurentian.

Tickets are $65 for members and $75 for non-members, and are on sale at Pulp & Circumstances, Paper on Queen Street. The celebrations begin at 6.30 p.m.
