Show set to be roaring success

CAR and bike enthusiasts will flock to the Number One Shed in Hamilton on Sunday for the 14th annual US Direct Custom Car and Bike Show.

From flashy neon lights, multi-media packages and just about any other modification that can be possibly thought of, spectators will get the chance to see and cast votes for the coveted title of Best Bike and Car of 2003.

Body shops and spray painters will also have artistic works on display at the show which highlights vehicles with extensive modifications.

The show runs from noon until 5 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children. The general public is invited to attend ? and cast ballots.

"Basically, people will get to see a car which went overseas to compete and did really well and has been featured on Fresh TV," said event organiser Anthony Peets.

Kevin Busby ? one of Bermuda's leading customisers ? will also be on hand to unveil projects yet to be displayed in public.

"He's extremely talented and operates one of the body shops that always makes the car show worth coming to," added Mr. Peets.

"People will also get to see the latest in multi-media car stereo installations and it will be a pretty interactive show. People can sit in the cars, get the feel and the experience and see how they can take something from a basic stock look to extraordinary."

Several of this year's entries have been shipped overseas to undergo specific modifications.

"Due to the fact we have strict TCD (Transport Control Company) licensing restrictions with reference to the maintenance and upkeep of cars, guys tend to keep them better than their females," said Mr. Peets.

Last year's event saw the island's premier airbrush artist Robbie Rogers make a clean sweep of both Best Car and Bike of the Year titles.

The defending champion won't be back to defend his crown on Sunday, however, although some his work will still be on display on the vehicles of several of his customers who have entered this year's competition.
