The Rev. Dr. John Russell
The Reverend Dr. John George Russell has died in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. He was 95.
Dr. Russell received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Mount Allison University in 1931. he did postgraduate studies at Edinburgh University, Scotland, and received a Bachelor of Divinity degree in 1964. In 1967 he received an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from Mount Allison University.
Dr. Russell served in the following maritime pastoral charges of the United Church of Canada: Sherbrooke, Dartmouth, Glace Bay, Westville, Nova Scotia and Sackville and St. John, New Brunswick. He retired in 1973 after 40 years of active ministry.
During the course of his retirement he supplied in Bermuda in the 1970s at Grace Methodist, Cobbs Hill Methodist, Wesley Methodist and Somerset Methodist churches.
He is survived by a daughter, Georgette Britten, son James Russell, six grandchildren, Kevin (Bermuda), Robert, Kathy, Heather, Jacqui and Stephen and one great grandson, Matthew.
The funeral was held on July 3 in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
