LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
October 4, 2007
IN Bermuda today the people hear, read and talk about almost nothing except politics and race. It goes on and on causing depression, discontent and uncertainty. Property restrictions discriminate against our non-Bermudian husbands and wives and also against Bermudians who would like to sell to non-Bermudians. Our public education system, which largely serves black Bermudians, fails to prepare them to work in today's economy thus disenfranchising them and causing discontent while a black Progessive Labour Party does very little to improve the quality of schooling. The Government actively assists greedy developers who serve non-Bermudians as they destroy what little is left of our open space. Our Police Service is failing in its duty to police our capital city, to control the traffic on our roads an to stem the import and use of drugs yet the Police can find the time and the manpower to arrest the Auditor General and to harass the media. The Premier travels abroad, endlessly it seems, and makes speeches which demean Bermuda and alarm Bermudians. We should all have sense enough to keep our disputes at home and to wash our dirty linen in private and not in Washington. Independence has again reared its unwelcome head despite the freedom provided, especially to our students, by access to Britain and most of Europe and despite the freedom a recognised UK passport gives us all. Human Rights are a joke as our Government and our churches support and condemn prejudice and discrimination against innocent gays, Bermudian and foreign. Is it any wonder that the people are unhappy and stressed?
