Warwick man fined for swearing at police
A Warwick man who admitted repeatedly cursing at police was yesterday fined for his language.Coolridge Hayward, 29, pleaded guilty to three counts of using offensive words to officers during an incident on Saturday.The court heard that at around 2.55am that day, officers responded to a report of men fighting in Warwick.When the officers arrived, they saw a group of men standing in the street. Hayward, who was in the group, was shouting loudly in the direction of a house.The officers approached him. He attempted to escape but was eventually detained and taken away from the area.In response to officers’ requests for more information, Hayward said: “You want my first name? My first name is kiss my a**.”He was warned that it was an offence to use offensive language but continued to swear.“You’re just a white boy f*****. Suck my d*** b*****,” he told the officers.He then told one officer on arrival at Hamilton Police Station: “You’re not even a real n*****, you’re just brown.”Hayward yesterday apologised to the court and Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner for the incident and wasting the court’s time.Mr Warner fined Hayward $1,500.
