Teens accused of string of burglaries
Two teenagers have appeared in court accused of stealing more than $40,000 worth of property in a string of burglaries.
Adrian Whitecross, 17, and Joshua Boorman, 16, are charged with carrying out six raids at homes in Southampton over an eight-day period earlier this month.
They are accused of stealing items including cash, jewellery, clothes, electrical equipment and a motorcycle. Whitecross, of Railway Trail, Sandys, and Boorman, of Middle Road, Southampton, appeared at Magistrates? Court to face six charges of burglary yesterday. They did not enter pleas and were remanded back into custody.
Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner read the pair their charge sheet during the hearing.
It said in the first burglary, on Wednesday, January 3, they are accused of stealing two cameras, a DVD player and a phone, with the total value of around $7,000. In alleged incidents at homes in Gibbs Hill Road, between Thursday, January 4, and Monday, January 8, they are charged with stealing equipment including cameras, laptops, jewellery, $1,000 cash, a passport and an iPod, worth a total of more than $25,000.
On Wednesday, January 10, they are accused of stealing items including a camera, camcorder, DVD player and motorcycle, worth more than $4,300 in total, from a home in Shawn Acres Lane.
In the final alleged burglary, in Spice Hill Road, on Wednesday, January 10, they are accused of stealing more than $4,000 worth of goods, including jewellery, an I-pod and cameras.
The pair will reappear at Magistrates? Court on Monday, January 29, when they are expected to enter pleas.
