Digicel has private jet on standby to bring in emergency telecoms gear
Wireless services provider Digicel Bermuda will have a private jet standing by overseas ready to be loaded with telecommunications equipment and expert riggers, should they be needed in the aftermath of Hurricane Leslie. The company said yesterday it was in a “heightened state of readiness” for the approaching storm and added that it has activated its comprehensive Hurricane Preparedness Plan which seeks to protect the interests of its customers, staff and dealers.“It’s all about ensuring our customers can stay connected to family and friends,” said Digicel Bermuda CEO Wayne Caines.“We take that responsibility very seriously. As such, we have generators installed in the vast majority of our cell sites across the island and ample fuel supplies to meet our requirements.”Digicel said the private jet would remain available to the firm in the event that more human and capital resources are required from overseas.Plans are in place to have several of Digicel’s technical team members on site during Hurricane Leslie in order to ensure the continued service to customers. The Digicel Bermuda management team is also equipped with mobile internet modems for their laptops and tablets so that crisis plan e-mail communication can be maintained throughout the storm in the event electricity is lost.“We encourage everyone to make all the necessary preparations before Leslie makes landfall and to stay safe as the storm passes through the island,” Mr Caines said.“Likewise, we would like to assure our valued customers that we are taking every measure to ensure that we provide the reliable means of communication that our customers rely on and that our customer care team will be available 24/7 as always to ensure our customers receive the very best service.”
