Miss Bermuda, Rochell Minors, did the Island proud at the Miss World finals in Mongolia, but was unable to seize the crown.Rochelle was unable to reach the overall final this weekend, however she was close for the finals of the multimedia round, where contestants were chosen for the best use of social media.The 22-year-old also reached the semi-finals in both the top model and talent portions of the international competition.The title of Miss World was won by Miss China, Wenxia Yu, who defeated 115 other competitors to take the crown at a ceremony held at the Dongsheng Stadium in Ordos, Inner Mongolia.Miss Wales won the position of first runner up, followed by Miss Australia.Following the competition, Premier Paula Cox expressed her pride in Rochelle’s work.“It was quite exciting watching the Miss World Pageant live from China on Saturday morning and knowing that our little Island home miles away was being well represented by Miss Rochelle Minors — a lovely young lady who is full of charm, poise and elegance,” the Premier said.“Unfortunately, our Miss Bermuda was not in the 30 finalists but she did gain some exposure for Bermuda and she acquitted herself well.“I’m sure she has made lasting friendships with many of the contestants and she will have wonderful lifelong wonderful memories of the competition and her experiences in China.“On behalf of the Government of Bermuda, I commend Rochelle for serving as a role model for other young women in Bermuda and for representing Bermuda with style, grace and confidence in an international arena.“In my mind, Rochelle is a winner because she participated among the best of the best and we are all very proud of her efforts.”Meanwhile Rochelle’s Miss World Bermuda Facebook page was decorated with more than a dozen comments praising her accomplishments.Diane Whittaker wrote: “You have done so well, Rochelle. Bermuda is proud of you and so am I.”And Andrew Paul Scaife wrote: “Thank you Rochelle. You have done an amazing job.
