The Bank of Bermuda Foundation has changed its name to the Centennial Bermuda Foundation and introduced a new logo.

Tom Conyers, the chairman of the foundation, said the new name helped Centennial establish itself as an independent, private foundation.

Mr Conyers added: “The organisation has been evolving in recent years with a vision that all people in Bermuda be healthy, independent, financially secure and connected to community, with equitable opportunities for all.

“A new name is an inevitable part of our evolution of the last four years

“ As we work to connect more with the community, we need to make it clearer and easier to understand who we are and who is behind grant-making decisions.”

The name was chosen to reflect the foundation’s past association and initial funding from the Bank of Bermuda Centennial Trust, which was created in 1990 to commemorate 100th anniversary of the bank, now HSBC Bermuda.

The organisation is a philanthropic foundation that hands out more than $2.5 million a year to a wide range of charities and provides $950,000 in scholarships annually.

Mr Conyers said: “A meaningful advancement this year included an open recruitment process for new committee members to ensure that those who review applications for funding represent a diverse cross section of society – those appointments will be announced shortly.

“This is important to enrich decision making in support of the whole community.”
