Golf course worker puts out car fire

A car burst into flames in Sandys yesterday, but a Port Royal Golf Course staff member was able to quickly extinguish the blaze before it could spread.

Fire service spokesman Leonard Davis said that around 10am the service received a report of a vehicle fire on Pompano Beach Road.

“The vehicle was reported to have visible smoke and flames emitting from the engine compartment,” Lt Davis said.

The Fire Service responded with one vehicle staffed with four firefighters, but before they were able to reach the scene of the blaze a Port Royal Golf Course staff member extinguished the fire himself using a dry chemical powder extinguisher.

No one was injured in the incident.
