St George’s 6 Boulevard 3Jahron Dickinson netted his first hat -trick of the season to propel St George’s to their fifth league win of the season at a windswept Wellington Oval yesterday.The diminutive forward scored his treble before the break to cap a memorable display of finishing against relegation threatened Boulevard who created ample chances to come away with a better result.Jarizinho Bassett and Allen Douglas who added a brace also got in on the scoring act for the hosts.Blazers replied through Sergio Robinson, Melchisedec Gibbons and sub Shenouda Outerbridge with all three goals arriving from free kicks.The adverse conditions made it extremely difficult for both teams to play any decent brand of football and in the end it all boiled down to which of the two could make the most shooting at the target with the wind at their back.This is where St George’s held the decisive edge as five of their goals came in the first half to leave Boulevard playing catch up the rest of the way.“It was always going to be about mastering the conditions and playing in such a strong wind we were grateful to jump out front early,” said St George’s coach Richard Todd. “We just asked the players to step up and understand certain things that needed to get done and I thought they responded to it.”Blazers coach Haile Outerbridge took defeat all in stride.“I am not pleased with the result but all in all I am pleased with the effort my players showed in these conditions, which were very windy,” he said.Mathematically, Blazers can still avoid the drop and Outerbridge has urged his players not to throw in the towel just yet.“It’s a long road so we just have to keep fighting,” he said. “We are just going to keep marching on.”Dickinson took just seconds to send St George’s on their way to victory when he fired past Blazers ‘keeper Antione Famous from just outside the 18-yard box to open his account.Bassett then doubled the home team’s lead in the 18th minute with a soft goal that in all honesty Famous should have had covered at his near post.Robinson dragged the visitors back into the match when he headed past Premier Division debutant Charlie Marshall Jr in the St George’s goal.But all Blazers’ hard work came undone when Douglas scored the first of his two goals. Famous’ intended clearance rebounded off Douglas’ body and bounced favourably for the St George’s frontman, who calmly stroked the ball into the empty net after the ‘keeper had committed himself off his line.Dickinson then netted two goals in the space of six- minutes, with his hat trick arriving directly from a corner kick that swirled into the roof of the net.Blazers were more organised in the second-half with the wind at their backs and with better finishing they might have come away from this clash with at least a share of the spoils.Aldonte Smith blasted over when well placed.
