St. Brendan's best employees make a splash

THREE hospital employees made waves at a poolside celebration when they were presented with Employee of the Year awards.

The annual St. Brendan's Hopital "Spring Splash" celebration was held by the pool on the hospital grounds. Phillip James, a learning disabilities nurse, was announced as "Nurse of the Year", Peta Evans, who works in the Somers Ward recieved the "Nurses-Aid of the Year" award, while Gilbert Williams, a Gardener at the hospital came away with the "People's Choice" award.

"We truly appreciate the work that each member of staff does here at St. Brendan's," Patrice Dill, Director of St. Brendan's Hospital said. "By having the staff vote for the awards it encourages us to appreciate our collegues.

"The awards ceremony is a great oppertunity for us to get together and celebrate. We really had a lot of fun."

The recipients were selected by the hospital's staff after two phases of balloting. The "Spring Splash" committee sent out voting slips to the hospital staff and short-listed to four candidates per award from those results. The staff then voted on the short-listed candidates to decide the final winners

This year's theme for the festivities was "Back in the Day" complete with hula-hoops and seventies style fashion show. Prizes for the "best dressed" consisted of popular seventies era games, such as checkers and marbles.
