Like a duck to water

Kitty paddle: Samson the swimming cat is a five-month old kitten. His owner says he heads down to the beach by himself days.Samson was tossed in the water when he had ringworm covering his entire body. But Samson liked the water and has continued swimming.

At five months old Samson the kitten obviously still has a great deal to learn about life as a feline - such as not liking water and wanting to chase birds.

His mother abandoned him shortly after he was born and, after a brief spell at the Feline Protection League, he eventually ended up in the care of Karen Whitehead who already had a five-year-old cockatoo named Cheeziee. Ms Whitehead's first task was to help clear up Samson's ringworm.

"I had cream from the vet for Samson, but I figured that salt water cures our sores, so for sure it will sort out his and I tossed him overboard," Ms Whitehead, from Bailey's Bay, said.

"The ringworm cleared up within two weeks, but Samson, gained a love for the sea and swimming and he goes on a regular basis.

"We live about ten feet from the beach and the salt water also keeps down the fleas as well."

Samson has also befriended the cockatoo.

But despite his love for salt water Samson does not like being bathed.
