Bermuda confirm big entry for Games

Bermuda's chances of grabbing medals at this year's Island Games have been boosted with the news that 11 sports are set to be represented.

The event takes place in Guernsey in June and will see Bermuda up against the likes of the host nation, the Falkland Islands, the Faroes, Gibraltar and the Isle of Man.

Organisers gave competing nations until December 28 last year to confirm which sports would be making the trip, but they have until April 28 to finalise their numbers.

Games Director Roy Martel said yesterday: “Bermuda has estimated they will be taking part in 11 sports and will be bringing 114 competitors and team officials.”

Those sports set to make the trip at this time are archery, badminton, men's basketball, cycling, gymnastics, sailing, swimming, table tennis, triathlon and men's and women's volleyball.

The ‘Inter-Island' Games were born in the Isle of Man in 1985, with the intention of bringing together a number of small islands from different parts of the world in friendly competition as part of the Isle of Man's Year of Sport.
