An Island of kindness

Dear Sir, My family and I just returned from another wonderful visit to your Island.

Dear Sir, My family and I just returned from another wonderful visit to your Island. We have been to Bermuda a few times and the kindness shown toward my family on this last trip has prompted me to write this letter.

My mother travelled with us. She fell in June and broke both legs and her knee. She uses a wheel chair in order to get around. We were a little skeptical about travelling with her in this fashion and didn't know what to expect. I am pleased to report that the kindness of the Bermudian folks made this trip a pleasure.

A lovely gentleman who works for Delta Airlines carried my mother off of the plane in a special chair. This was only the beginning of kindness shown to her. We travelled via cabs and all of the drivers could not have been more accommodating. They helped my mother into the car and then folded the wheel chair and stowed it in the rear of the cab. A special thanks to Mr. Quinton Johnson of Warwick who was our main driver. Mr. Johnson was kind and courteous and he posses a wonderful sense of humour.

Dining was also a special event for us. The folks at the Hog Penny and Henry VIII were especially accommodating to my mother. They carried her in the wheel chair up and down steps and made all of us feel very welcome.

My deepest and most sincere gratitude goes to Mr. and Mrs. Donald Dickinson of Warwick. We stayed with the Dickinsons and I can't begin to tell you how kind they were to all of us. When we arrived Mrs. Dickinson had a wheelchair waiting for us. They welcomed us with open arms and made us feel like we were a member of the family. They couldn't do enough for all of us, especially my mother. We have stayed with the Dickinsons in the past and each stay has been a memorable one. Their kindness and generosity is above and beyond the call of duty.

We really appreciate the kindness shown to us on our last trip to Bermuda. The Bermudians are a kind and helpful people. All of the folks that helped us during our recent stay will hold a special place in my heart for a long time to come. Thank you all so very much.

KATHY FINN ANUSZEWSKI Maine I felt unwelcome October 31, 2000 Dear Sir, It was interesting to read the letter "A chilly reception'' from a New York visitor to Bermuda.

I recently arrived from the UK on holiday and my experience on arrival at the Airport was in many ways similar to that of your American correspondent.

After standing in line for an inordinate length of time at Immigration, I was eventually summoned imperiously to the desk of a female Immigration Officer, and questioned belligerently regarding my stay. Rather than being made welcome I felt like an illegal immigrant subject to the whims of a Government bureaucrat enjoying their uniform and moment of power.

I suggest that your Customs and Immigration officials should bear in mind that Bermuda is in greater need of the visitor than the visitor is of Bermuda.
