Duo piano concert set to thrill audiences

It has been a long time since Bermuda audiences enjoyed the excitement of a duo piano concert, but the drought will end on November 20 when the dynamic Pridonoff Duo present a programme of works by Mozart, Tschaikowsky, Bolcom and Rachmaninoff at the Ruth Seaton James Centre for the Performing Arts.

In addition to delighting adult listeners, the duo pianists are also anxious to attract and captivate children, so they will be playing Tschaikowsky?s popular ?Nutcracker Suite? in its entirety.

The programme will open with Mozart?s Sonata for Two Pianos in D Major, K.448, and conclude with Rachmaninoff?s ?Fantasie-tableaux (Suite No. 1) in G. Minor, Op. 5. William Bolcom?s ?Recuerdos?, consisting of three Latin American dances, will open the second half of the concert.

Elizabeth and Eugene Pridonoff formed their duo to complement their solo careers, and they have performed to rave reviews at such renowned venues as New York?s Alice Tully Hall, and Washington?s Kennedy Center.

In addition to touring throughout the United States they have also toured the People?s Republic of China, teaching in several of its conservatories, as well teaching and touring in universities and performing arts academies in Hong Kong, Japan and Korea. Summers have found them teaching master classes in Prague and Belgium, as well as being featured performers in Monterrey.

As soloists they have also performed with many of the world?s finest orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Philadelphia, and the National Symphony. As duo-in-residence and professors of piano at the University of Cincinnati, their students have won international competitions and hold positions in music schools and universities throughout the world.

The November 20 concert will begin at 8 p.m., and tickets (patrons $40, adults $30, students $15) are available from Pulp & Circumstance (Papers), Meyer Travel, and from November 17 at the Visitor?s Service Bureau, as well as at the Bermuda International Languages and Arts Institute, Music Division ? telephone Dr. Karol Sue Reddington at 236-0774/296-5676).
