Top photo editor zooms in for exhibition

THE photo editor of renowned magazine National Geographic Traveler will lend her constructive critique to works in an upcoming exhibit at the Bermuda Society of Arts (BSoA).

Linda B. Meyerriecks will review the gallery's annual Photographic Exhibition, which opens to the public on April 30.

"This is a great bonus to the exhibition that is open to both amateur and professional photographers," said gallery director Peter Lapsley. "The exhibition is open to all themes and subjects and has no restrictions on the scale of work."

A 34-year veteran of the National Geographic Society (NGS), Ms Meyerriecks took over her current post of photo editor in 1990 and is responsible for defining the photographic vision of the magazine.

"While at Traveler, Linda has created and produced special issues, calendars and a reprint programme," a spokesperson said. "She solicits prizes for Traveler's annual photo contest and is also one of the judges.

"Before Traveler, Linda was Illustrations Editor on many large format books produced by the Society, and also Art Director for NGS promotions, as well as a layout assistant for National Geographic Magazine.

"Linda was founder and director of the International Photography Workshops, which took place in Hawaii, Italy, Austria and Belgium. She has been teaching the National Geographic Travel Magazine Photography Assignment class at the Maine Photographic Workshops for six years. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts at the Pratt Institute."

q The BSoA's Photographic exhibit is open to all its members, with a maximum of six entries per person. The deadline for entry is April 27 at 4 p.m. For more information, telephone Mr. Lapsley on 292-3824 or, via e-mail, bsoaibl.bm. The event is being sponsored by the Alea Group, Bermuda.
