"I will take into account your previous good character and age, and give you the benefit of the doubt.'' He gave Fray a six-month conditional discharge.
Miss Elizabeth Christopher, defending, said Fray was working part-time. "He is very sorry for committing this offence,'' she said.
HANDBAG THIEF HITS VISITORS CRM Handbag thief hits visitors Two American couples were victimised by handbag snatchers along the same road within two hours of each other on Tuesday night.
Police said the first incident occurred around 10:20 p.m. outside of The Princess Hotel on Pitt's Bay Road. A couple was walking past the hotel when two men on a motorcycle rode up and snatched the woman's handbag. The thieves fled along Rosemont Avenue where the purse was later found -- minus $300 in cash and traveller's cheques.
Police said the second incident along Pitt's Bay Road occurred at 11:45 p.m. A woman's handbag was snatched while she walked with her husband near the Primavera Restaurant. The snatch caused the woman to fall and injure her leg.
She was later treated at the hospital for abrasions.
Her husband, with the help of a passing visitor, struggled briefly with the robber. The thief dropped the handbag and ran off with the visitor in pursuit.
He caught him in front of the Bacardi building but the thief struggled free and escaped into the night.
Police report the suspect as being about 5 feet, 11 inches, brown skinned with a small beard and wearing dark clothing and a white helmet. A Police spokesman said there was "every possibility'' the two incidents were related.
