Willow Cuts, 197 all out, beat Somerset Bridge, 136 all out, by 61 runsMalachi Jones ensured a showdown with his former team, Southampton Rangers, will take place in the next round of the Western Counties as Willow Cuts strolled to a 61-run win over Somerset Bridge at Southampton Oval on Saturday.Jones (36) top scored after Cuts won the toss and elected to bat, posting 197 all out in 38.1 overs.Joshua Commissiong (23) and Chris Douglas (5) put on 27 runs for the opening partnership before Douglas departed, bringing Sheroy Fubler to the crease.Fubler (31) steadied the ship after Commissiong was out with the score on 35, and along with Jones helped the champions to a defendable total.Missing senior players in their ranks, Jones came in at number seven and secured his team a total that was enough to win the match against their underdog opponents.Shawn Riley grabbed four wickets for his bowling efforts while Noel Woods helped himself to two wickets.“We didn’t play as well as we would have liked to, we have a big game in the league coming up. No disrespect to Bridge but we felt that if we could get the win today and get our players that we wanted to be rested some relaxation then we would be OK,” said Jones.“We left a lot of overs on the table in terms of our batting, but overall we have moved on and got the victory, so we are pleased.“Our run was enough and we move on.”Bridge, for all their hard work, fell short with Woods top scoring with 25 as the side were bowled out for 136 in 43.2 overs.Derek Hill (18) and Clarence Trott (11) chipped with runs but it was too little too late as the game was beyond reach.Again, Jones was the chief destroyer of the challengers claiming three wickets, while Douglas also snatched three.Youngster Antonio Darrell contributed with two wickets.“Our next round of County is Rangers and we will look to hold onto our cup,” added Jones. “We know what we are capable of and at the end of the day we want to win.“Our team will only get stronger as the season progresses and I am pleased to be on a team like the one we have at the club at the moment.”
