A female Police Officer was knocked down by a motorcyclist who was trying to flee from authorities, Police said yesterday.

The 23-year-old was seen riding a motorcycle on Canal Road at 11 p.m. on Saturday as Police were writing parking tickets.

"The man proceeded to park the motorcycle on the sidewalk of Canal Road," Police said. "When an officer approached to tell him to move the cycle, the suspect fled, riding west on Canal Road towards BAA field.

"He was subsequently stopped and arrested by other officers in the area, but not before he ran over one of the officers with the motorcycle.

"The female officer sustained abrasions to her arm and was treated at the scene."

Daylight robbery

A Pembroke man was attacked and robbed in broad daylight outside the Bailey's Bay Ice Cream Shop on Saturday afternoon.

The 51-year old victim was talking with the suspect, a 21-year old St. George's man who is known to the victim, when the St. George's man punched him in the face, knocking him to the ground.

The attacker stole the victim's wallet, containing $30 in cash and other personal items. He then escaped on a motorcycle.

The victim was treated for injuries at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital and released.

Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Fined for crack pipe

A Salvation Army resident caught with a crack pipe was fined $200 after he pleaded guilty to having the drug equipment.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner heard that on April 2, William Gumbs, 65, of Marsh Lane, was stopped by Police on mobile patrol in Pembroke at 9 p.m. and officers discovered he had a glass pipe. After being arrested a Government Anaylst examined the pipe and it was found to contain traces of cocaine.

Mr. Warner ordered Gumbs to pay $200 for possession of drug equipment or spend 20 days in custody. The fine must be paid by October 7.

Warwick home broken into

A thief made off with an unknown amount of cash on Saturday after breaking into a Cobbs Hill Road, Warwick home.

The complainant told Police that at some time between 6.50 p.m. and 11.15 p.m. on Saturday the unknown culprit broke into her home and stole the money. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
