Mr. Steve Rodan, who lived here from 1980 to 1987, was elected to the House of Keys -- the elected chamber of The Tynwald, the Isle of Man's parliament -- on May 4.

The by-election in the constituency of Garff was caused by the promotion of Dr. Edgar Mann -- one time Chief Minister of the Isle of Man -- to the Legislative Council or the upper chamber of parliament.

Mr. Rodan, a native of Scotland, spent seven years in Bermuda with his wife Ana and two daughters 13-year-old Lisa and ten-year-old Moira. They lived at Zuill's Park in Smith's Parish.

Mr. Rodan worked as a pharmacist at White's Pharmacy in Warwick from 1980 to 1982, when he became a pharmacy manager for the late Mr. Hartley Watlington at Somerset Pharmacy. He remained there until he left Bermuda for the Isle of Man.

In addition to being a member of Christ Church in Warwick, he was president of the Bermuda Caledonian Society from 1982 to 1984, and a member of the Bermuda Cadet Pipe Band. Mr. Rodan remains a member of the Civil and Military Masonic Lodge in Hamilton.

Since 1987, Mr. Rodan has owned and managed a pharmacy in the Isle of Man village of Laxey.

He formed the Laxey Traders Association in 1990, and in 1991 was elected to the local government authority for Laxey (Laxey Village Commissioners), becoming its chairman for two years.

Mr. Rodan said his family still have many friends in Bermuda and he hoped that the work of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association will give him a perfect excuse to visit the Island again.
