Covid-19: new case is symptomatic resident
A resident who showed symptoms of the coronavirus has tested positive, the Government announced yesterday.
All of the other 470 results received by the Ministry of Health on Tuesday were clear.
The positive case was classed as local transmission with a known contact.
They were a household contact of a returning resident who arrived in Bermuda on November 7 and received a positive result after their Day 4 test.
The latest case became symptomatic after being in quarantine since November 12.
Government officials expressed concerns on Tuesday about returning residents coming back to Bermuda without having been tested before departure.
Visitors to Bermuda will be required to have a negative Covid-19 test a maximum of five days prior to departure. Bermuda’s active cases have surged since the beginning of November.
Bermuda has had 224 confirmed cases and 19 are active with none in hospital.
Nine people with Covid-19 have died and 196 people have recovered from the virus.
The age range of all positive cases is from 7 to 101 years.
A total of 111 cases were brought in from overseas, 92 were transmitted locally with a known contact and 21 were transmitted locally with an unknown contact.
Bermuda’s country status is “sporadic cases.”
