Thieves make off with woman’s groceries
Staff at a Hamilton Parish supermarket have been left wondering what their community has come to, after thugs set upon an employee in the parking lot at closing time. The attack came shortly after 10pm on Thursday, at the Shelly Bay MarketPlace. A female employee had gone out to her car at the end of the night, only to be accosted by two men wearing dark-visored helmets that covered their faces.“They pushed her down to the ground, and grabbed her bags and took her purse,” said a staff member, who asked not to be named.“They knocked her down and then took off. She is really shook up by it. She just can’t believe that it happened. My nerves are on the edge too. It’s crazy.”Frightened staff last night said they had extra security for the close of business. “We got someone to stay back with us until we’re all out,” the employee said. “We feel better having someone to go out there with us.”The victim, a 48-year-old Hamilton Parish woman, was not injured in the attack, and returned to work yesterday. Her assailants robbed of her groceries, as well as her black and maroon purse containing her cell phone and some personal items. Police attended shortly after the robbery. The two suspects are described as being around 5ft 5in and 5ft 7in in height, of slim build, dressed in black jackets and blue jeans. One wore a black helmet; the other’s was red. Witnesses or anyone with information are asked to contact Detective Constable Jason Trott at the St George’s Criminal Investigation Unit, on 293-2222.
