Unbeaten Islanders hang on to top spot
St. David's 92-1 St. David's maintained their hold on first place in the Premier League on net run rate, blasting their runs at seven an over to easily beat PHC yesterday.
The home team made it three wins in a row after Glenn Blakeney, Philip Pitcher and Chris Foggo took just 13 overs to score their 92 runs for victory as the trio smashed 15 boundaries between them.
Wicketkeeper Foggo hit six fours as he scored 32 of the last 50 runs after Blakeney and Pitcher put on 42 for the first wicket to set the pace.
Pitcher was the only wicket to fall, bowled for 25 after hitting five fours.
Blakeney was not out on 23 with four fours as he and Foggo carried the team to a comfortable nine-wicket win.
New-ball pair Rudell Pitcher and George O'Brien Jr did early damage to the PHC innings with five wickets between them as the visitors found themselves in deep trouble at 30-5.
A sixth wicket stand of 54 between middle-order pair Cal Waldron (23 not out) and Alan Wilkinson (21) steadied the innings briefly before the bottom fell out with the last five wickets going down for just four runs.
No other PHC batsman reached double figures as Pitcher picked up a fourth wicket in his second spell to finish with impressive figures of four for 26 from 10 overs. O'Brien had two for 17 off six overs and Del Hollis two for 16 from seven after claiming the last two wickets.
O.J.Pitcher had two for eight in his lone over, in which he broke the partnership between Waldron and Wilkinson.
Devonshire Rec. 212-5 St. George's 213-5 Ryan Steede struck 45 and Sinclair Gibbons chipped in with 40 to lead St.
George's to a five-wicket victory over Devonshire Rec. at Devonshire yesterday.
The east enders, chasing 213, cruised home with 9.6 overs to spare, Dean Minors scoring the winning runs as he hit Knaz Tuzo over the mid-on boundary for six to finish undefeated on 24.
Also among the runs for the east enders were opener Mark Ray with 24 and Graham Fox 25.
St. George's lost opener Dexter Smith (4) with 24 on the board but they made steady inroads as a result of some useful stands that were to follow.
Winston Trott was the top bowler for Devonshire with two for 28.
Earlier, Devonshire skipper Wendell Swan helped his side post a good target with an impressive knock of 70, including six fours and a six.
Swan and Ricky Brangman (28) added 89 for the second wicket. Others contributing with the bat were Anthony Amory with 30 not out, Aldapo Fredericks (19), Omari Amory (15 not out) and opener Cal Grimes (13).
Somerset Bridge 119 Bailey's Bay 120-1 Bailey's Bay enjoyed a quick victory as Somerset Bridge offered little resistance at Sea Breeze Oval where they lost by nine wickets.
Jermaine Warner missed out on his third straight 50 for Bay when four byes down the legside completed the win but left him unbeaten on 46. Warner needed 11 runs to complete his 50, with the team also needing 11 for victory.
Warner welcomed Jermaine Nisbett on the ball with a six and then a single to keep the strike. But Ryan Sheppard's third delivery was wayward and went for four as Warner finished with 46 not out from six fours and a six.
Warner and Irving Romaine were scoring at a blistering pace with 86 coming in the opening stand in 13 overs when Romaine departed for 46 to a catch at mid-off by Denzel Dill.
Dill, batting at number eight, was the top bat for Bridge with 33, including six fours. He and Perry Saunders put on 66 for the seventh wicket after Bay had them reeling at 23-6. Saunders scored 40 while the only other player in double figures was captain Corvett Lambert with 12 not out.
Clarkie Trott and Corey Hill, taken out of the attack after just three overs each as Bay eased up, returned two for five and two for four respectively while Dennis Pilgrim claimed two for 16.
