Sammy runs through Flatts

Teenager Sammy Robinson grabbed the first five Flatts wickets with just 68 runs on the board as St. David's strode into the semifinals of the Knockout Cup competition with a six-wicket win at St. John's field.

Only a last wicket stand of 62 between Gerald Sims and Rudolph Seaman enabled 10-man Flatts to pass the 100 mark. The previous big Flatts stands were ones of 20 runs for the third and fifth wickets as Robinson did the early damage after being handed the new ball by captain James Pace.

Andrew Richardson (22) and captain Rodney Woolridge (14) were the main run contributors amongst the early Flatts batsmen as they struggled against Robinson and Lionel Cann. Flatts went quickly from 68 for five to 70 for eight.

When last pair Sims and Seaman came together the St. David's opening batsmen were expecting to be batting soon. But the tail-enders stayed together longer, with Sims throwing caution to the wind with a knock of 40 not out, which included four sixes and a four.

The stand ended when Seaman was caught and bowled by Herbie Bascome for 20 as Bascome finished with figures of two for 28.

Reginald Pitcher and Shea Pitcher put on 71 for the first wicket to set St.

David's on course for victory with Reginald the first to go when he was caught for 33.

The second St. David's wicket fell on 109 when Shea Pitcher departed for a top score of 34. Cann, batting at number three, went a run later for 22 and though St. David's lost another wicket the Flatts challenge had long ended by then.

Maxwell Lawrence claimed two for 41 and Sims two for 32.

Veteran Erskine (Choe) Smith led Devonshire's bowlers with two wickets for 27 while Anthony Amory had two for 28.
