Women joggers warned over early-morning pervert

Women who go running or walking early in the morning are being warned to take care following a spate of indecent exposures.

Police Assistant Commissioner Carlton Adams said in the last two weeks there had been a spell of separate incidents where women had seen a man either exposing himself or performing an indecent act in the street.

One report has already been received this week, and two different incidents were reported last week.

He said there was nothing at the moment to confirm that the incidents were linked, but urged anyone who witnessed such a crime to report it to Police.

Mr. Adams said: “Women who are walking or running early in the morning, at about 6.30 a.m., are starting to notice men who are exposing themselves.

“It's happening in the central parishes, and we also had one reported to us from Southampton. Whoever it is is standing a distance away from the complainants, but he, or they, are doing this disgusting behaviour for people to see.

“At this point, we don't have a firm conclusion as to whether there is a link or whether they involve separate people. We simply don't know. We don't want to overly concern people, but we would continue to encourage women to walk or run in groups if they are going out very early in the mornings.

“And if there are women out there who have seen this, or witness an indecent exposure act, then I would ask them to report it. We need to have a total idea of where this is happening and when.”

In one incident last week, a man was seen performing an indecent act near Christ Church, Middle Road in Devonshire.

And over the weekend a man was seen exposing himself on the North Shore in Devonshire.

Anyone with information should call Police on 295-0011.
