The Athletic Club (TAC), a fixture in Bermuda's health and fitness scene since 1984, has purchased gym space on the island of Providenciales in the Turks and Caicos.

Kym Burns, the new president and managing director of Hamilton-based Athletic Club, purchased the Turks and Caicos property in September, originally named Pulse Gym.

The new 3,000-square-foot club will offer a full roster of exercise classes, including studio cycling, which is the first time this type of training class will be offered in that country.

The facility will be completely renovated and Ms Burns is looking to expand into a neighbouring 1,000-square-foot space.

"We are excited to be expanding the standards of TAC Bermuda to the Turks and Caicos," said Ms Burns, who is travelling between the two properties to oversee the renovations and staff transition.

"Opening up the future of quality of life for its clients and the community, more productivity in the workplace and the lowering of health care costs."

Bermudian TAC members, who vacation or work in the Turks and Caicos, will have access to the Provo gym at no additional cost.

Back home in Bermuda, the 7,000-square-foot Athletic Club has bulked up its management team with the addition of a new assistant manager, fitness director and service supervisor who is also a qualified aesthetician that will be assisting members with their beauty and wellness needs.

The club will also be receiving a facelift over the coming year as well.

According to Ms Burns, staffing additions will allow the club to become more than just a place to work out.

"As a place where genuine care, service and the enhancement of quality of life is our greatest mission, we are not just a gym, rather a wellness facility," she said.

To celebrate the expansion, The Athletic Club is offering a discount on memberships until November 15.
