Bermuda’s junior players have been making their mark at this week’s BCS IBM Squash Championships.Sixty players entered the week-long event and the youngsters have been giving the adults a run for their money at the Devonshire courts.Reaching the later stages of the event, as expected, were D’Vario Thompson, Kyler Knights, Kion Knights and Nazhir Smith, but 14-year-old Tiye Williams sprang a surprise by reaching the quarter-finals in the ladies draw where she was beaten by top seed Laura Robinson.Thompson also reached the quarters before going down to Chase Toogood.However, Toogood has now had to withdraw because of injury, giving Thomas Sherratt passage to the final.Also making an impact were 10-year-old Dylan Pratt and Anaya Smith who were battling much more experienced opponentsAll of the top seeds were still on track to reach this evening’s finals with the semi-finals scheduled to be played last night.Robinson is hoping to retain her Ladies Open title while Jan Brewer and Denise Kyme are looking hold onto the Veterans trophies.Sherratt is hoping to end Nick Kyme’s stranglehold on the event. The former pro has lifted the title for the last 11 years.
