Whoever said age makes a difference?

Fourteen-year-old golfer Blair Marshall might beg to differ after staging a late rally to capture the Bermuda National Junior Matchplay Golf Championship with a two up victory over 17-year-old Justin Madeiros last week at Riddell?s Bay.

Armed with a red hot putter, Marshall came back from three shots down to clinch the 36 hole championship in dramatic fashion on the penultimate hole with a ten foot birdie putt which gave the US-based school student perhaps his biggest win to date in a still blossoming career.

?It felt good when I made that putt,? said Marshall following his remarkable prowess with the putter.

?I was pretty much confident I could win it from there (17th) and I really enjoyed that moment. I didn?t feel any pressure.?

As for the age difference, ?That had never entered my mind,? insisted Marshall, a freshmen at Baylor School in Tennessee.

?I really didn?t think about that,? he added. ?He (Madeiros) did hit the ball a bit further which gave him an advantage on some of the holes. But I had been hitting the ball solidly with my irons all week long.

?I?ve always wanted to win this championship (senior boys 13 to 17) and so it feels great to have finally accomplished that goal.?

In the consolation finals, Andrew Osborne defeated Andrew Lang one up while Mark Phillips also defeated Rishi Aggarwal by one up over 18 holes.

Alex Osborne clinched the boys 12 and under category after defeating Ryan Roberts one up in a seesaw battle played over 18 holes.
